Actions are what EngageDM does when a trigger fires. You can combine multiple actions in a single automation.

Send a Direct Message

The primary action — sends a DM to the user who triggered the automation. You write the message inline, or start from a pre-filled Template.

• Supports plain text, emojis, and line breaks.
• Personalize with {{username}}, {{first_name}}, or {{full_name}} — filled in at send time.
• Max DM length: 1,000 characters (Instagram limit).

Link Button (CTA)

Attach a tappable button to your DM that opens a link. Set a button label (max 20 characters) and the URL — EngageDM wraps it in a tracked short link so you can see clicks in Analytics. On desktop the link also appears in the message text; on mobile users get the tappable button.

Reply to Comment

Posts a public reply under the comment that triggered the automation. This is separate from the DM.

• Useful for social proof ("Check your DMs! 📩") or to drive other users to comment.
• You can add multiple comment reply variants — EngageDM randomly cycles through them to look natural.

Follow to unlock (optional)

Require commenters to follow you before they get your link. When Follow to unlock is on, the first DM holds the link back and shows a button asking the user to follow and tap it. When they tap or reply, EngageDM checks whether they actually follow your account:

• Following → the link is delivered.
• Not following → they get a friendly "follow us first" prompt and can try again once they do.

The gate guards a link, so it's only available when the Link Button is enabled — turning the button off automatically disables it.
